Are You Faking or Feeling Your Body?

Many of us don’t even think of our body as who we are. We treat it like a mechanical device. We get “service people” to work on it, replace parts, or look for outside solutions to fix our problems. That’s faking it.

Feeling the human body—truly tuning into it—allows your nervous system to give you answers. While there are certainly benefits to understanding body mechanics and using outside resources, nothing can replace your own kinesthetic and neurological connection to your body.

Your Body Dialogue

The body dialogue is an ongoing, back-and-forth communication. Many people refer to this as the mind-body connection. But too often, it’s said offhandedly—“Oh, that’s the mind-body connection”—without any real physical awareness.

Without a true feeling of the physical body, your nervous system can’t change very much long term. The “old” or past dialogue is still overriding any changes you hope would last.

There is an underlying dialogue between the mind and the body at every moment of our lives. It’s how we instinctively pull our hand away from a hot stove or jump out of the way of a speeding car. We don’t think our way through those moments—our body knows.

I’ve come to see that our emotional memory lives not just in our brain, but in our joints and tissues. We sense there’s a deep connection, but we don’t always understand how it works. One thing is clear: the body adapts to what we tell it.

The Miracle Ball Method and the Body Dialogue

Students often tell me, “I’ve heard this from my yoga teacher—‘lift my head,’ ‘feel my feet’…” There are many brilliant teachers out there in yoga, dance, martial arts, and sports.

What’s different about The Miracle Ball Method is that it changes your basic body dialogue.

People come to me in great shape—or people who sit for hours at a desk—and they ask:
“Why am I doing all these great exercises and still have pain?”

The answer?
You haven’t changed your body dialogue.

That’s what the Method does—it changes you deeply. Because instead of trying to change what you don’t feel, you begin to feel you.

You Can’t Fake It—You Have to Feel It

Without knowing what you’re doing, how can you possibly change it?

All you’re doing is repeating exercises on top of an infrastructure you can’t sense. Are you building on a swamp? Or on stone?

We fake it—we all do—because it seems easier to let someone else tell us what to do. But that’s not where true change comes from.

When Doing the Miracle Ball Method

The Method is simple—and yes, people love the balls. I do too.

But while you’re in one of those great ball placements, ask yourself:
“What is my body doing right now?”

Because it is doing something.

It’s either:

  • Accommodating the shifts of weight
  • Or resisting them by staying locked in its usual patterns

Most of us don’t let those shifts connect to other parts of the body. We’ve been taught that we change the body one part at a time, but that’s not true.

Your body is electric. Everything moves together—every movement influences the whole in a moment in time.

There is nothing that can replace the true feeling of your own physical body.

Just as the mind influences the body, feeling your physical body can change not just your pain and posture—it can influence how you feel mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually.

Sometimes it just takes thinking outside the box to discover what’s possible for your body and your life.
