Do it different.

With the challenges I had with my body, looking back, I needed to make significant changes in how I moved my body to avoid living a life with chronic pain. I learned I could move differently simply while getting out of bed, walking to the kitchen, reaching for a cup of coffee or bending over to wash dishes. We are all constantly moving. Make your movements free of imitation, repetition, and do them differently. Most of us are riddled with confusion “how do I do this movement without hurting myself?”. Your body knows how to move.

When we hesitate in fear, its like that dog that senses you are afraid. Your body is much friendlier than that dog, but it will give you strong feedback if you live in fear of moving and think if you do one wrong move you will do permanent damage. I’m always pondering new ways to describe the Miracle Ball Method. It’s less about a detailed explanation and more about describing the sensory experience it provides. Many people think the focus is on the ball itself, but it’s the experience the ball offers that matters most and what you do when you are on the ball you can do off the ball. When done with clear intentions, the feedback from your body will be more profound and lasting.

For those of us who are attuned to visual experiences, some might find them more vivid than others. The ability to feel your body deeply has significant benefits, including moving without pain, avoiding recurring chronic backaches, reducing shoulder stiffness, and maintaining flexibility and coordination throughout your life. But few of us are naturally attuned to that somatic experience. The Miracle Ball Method can greatly enhance your ability to receive and interpret this bodily feedback.

How to More deeply benefit from the Miracle Ball Method

The Method explains how we can use the feedback from your body and makes it meaningful. To illustrate, imagine two people driving through the mountains of Colorado. One person is engaged in conversation and thinking about their plans for the day, while the other person is deeply immersed in the scenery. They are both seeing, but one is experiencing it in a different way.  Similarly, with our bodies, most of us are distracted with other experiences day to day. Few people are noticing what their body might be experiencing until it hurts or gets stressed and anxious. By acknowledging and utilizing this feedback, you can make significant changes in the outcome of things like your back aches, chronic anxiety, poor posture and all the negative effects of sitting for long periods.

Exercise, dance, martial arts, and sports all involve physical experiences. But we are moving in different ways all day. However, as we go through our lives, many of us carry injuries from youth, such as sports-related injuries, scoliosis, or chronic stress. These can be compounded by sitting at computers for long periods or mimicking others around us. Even if you’re not consciously aware of it, your sensory experience is always at play. It can become heightened or dull depending on what you are paying attention to.

Just like the people in the car ride who may or may not be fully engaged with their surroundings, many of us don’t fully engage with our bodies, especially when pain or injury is involved. Pain can be overwhelming and often isn’t fully understood or addressed by conventional medicine.

I’m not referring to pain related to a specific medical diagnosis but to the more general chronic pain that doesn’t fit neatly into medical categories. Chronic back pain, for example, can be more debilitating than many other life experiences. This type of pain is significant because it affects how you experience living in your body.

The Miracle Ball Method helps you experience your physical body in a new way. Much like enjoying a car ride without needing to analyze every detail of the scenery, you don’t need to overthink the Method. Instead, you need some guidance to tune into your body effectively.

I often compare this to when people ask me for directions to a store. I might not know street names or landmarks because I wasn’t paying attention to them; I just knew how to get where I needed to go. Similarly, without proper guidance, you might not fully appreciate or benefit from the ability your body has to adjust, realign, and rebalance you on a daily basis.
