Miracle Ball Method Basics

Your body is your medium.

When you do the Miracle Ball Method, you’re working with your medium. Making that distinction is key to moving freely and avoiding much of the chronic aches and anxieties so many of us live with. Most of us think it’s the “exercise” that changes us. But just as an artist might choose their medium to be oil paint, it’s the way they use that medium.

Medium: the material or form used by an artist, composer, or writer:

“oil paint is the most popular medium for glazing”

Painter Painting

That can be a very important distinction for most of us to make. If you have had injuries, alignment issues or significant stress in your life, it all greatly affects the way your body feels. Feeling is how your body moves. It’s the immediate connection to your nervous system.

You cannot move what you don’t feel.

In many cases we lose feeling and can mislabel and sometimes misdiagnose what is wrong with us. We then try to find solutions. But the solution is NOT the body. How effective the solution will be is how you use your medium, your body.

When doing the Miracle Ball Method, you begin to understand your focus is not to make your body better but to experience how your body moves.  The phenomenon of the body is through our senses our body adapts to new ways of moving. The more we feel the more our body has to work with. Information disconnected from a personal experience with your body doesn’t work.

The Miracle Ball Method provides an experience of the physical body as your medium for movement. Here are some of the Basics. The weight of your body, your breathing, and your body dialogue. It is completely unique how you will use this experience. Much like any artist, or architect, uses any medium to create what they want, we make choices.

Your Body Formula: Weight+Breathing=Reduction in excess Muscle Tension.

Your Body Dialogue.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve gotten many questions about this. People often think the questions I propose during the classes have right and wrong answers. Theres also a misconception that bigger feelings are better or the opposite, no feelings. The feeling of the physical body can be quite unfamiliar, and the stumbling block is developing a language. It becomes your own very unique language. But it works because it is addressing what you need. For example, why doesn’t the same exercise work for some and not others. Why does chiropractic adjustment sometimes only last until you get to your car. It’s because it’s not exercise or adjustment, it’s how your body uses it through having an experience. We intellectualize physical experience which is not the same.

Your body has two options, to return to its habit or to adapt to something better. If you don’t feel that, then you will most likely return to the habits whether you like them or not. Your body is your medium. It can make these adaptations. You don’t have to lose these great feelings you get but you have to become familiar with your medium.

The idea that we must feel certain things in certain ways is a man-made concept. The physical body experiences movement through weight and breath — the most basic and natural things. You can see children experimenting with this when they first begin to lift the heaviest part of their body — their head — in the crib. What an amazing thing to watch. They’re using their medium. They don’t refer to a teacher, read a book, or ask, “Is this correct?”

August 30th Next Free Webinar Anxiety and Chronic Pain.

When I ask, “What do you notice? Can you describe your sitting?” people are often confused. And that’s exactly why I ask — because isn’t it remarkable that so many cannot answer?

In the next webinar, I’m going to talk about anxiety as it relates to chronic pain — a deeply unfortunate but common example of how our thoughts and feelings affect our physical responses in milliseconds. Whether it’s anxiety, chronic pain, scoliosis, or simply a desire to improve the way you move — the medium remains the same. A piano does not turn into an apple. Your body has certain ways of functioning, and working through feel can create amazing results. With anxiety and chronic pain we can’t jumble a bunch of feelings together and make sense of it. Theres too much going on. But we are able to break it down so you can work with it.

Upcoming series: Fall Workshop Series, Miracle Ball Method Basics begins September 20.

This fall, my eight-week Saturday series will return — 90-minute classes that go deeper into relating to your body as simply what it is. The medium is not complicated, but the way we feel and relate to it is what makes it miraculous.

When you understand there’s no right or wrong answer — no single “correct” way to move — you open the door to a completely different experience of your body. Yes there will be information in the form of directions and understanding the method. Information alone does not work.  Just as there’s no single right way to cook, or one right way to play an instrument, working with your body means engaging with your physical self. That’s the Miracle Ball Method.

Come join me and learn more. Regardless of the topic — webinar or series — we’re always working on the basics. Sometimes it might seem confusing, which is why I’m going back to the basics. Whether advanced or beginner you will get what you need.
