We get stuck. The head remains forward for long periods, and the laws of physics take over. The ribcage begins to contract, the upper chest muscles tighten, and the shoulders try to compensate.

That familiar saying applies here more literally than we think. We’re not just stuck in these physical patterns—we end up living in them for years. And instead of looking at the bigger picture, we focus only on the area that hurts: the neck and shoulders. We blame bad posture. We try to “fix” it by yanking the shoulders back and sticking out the chest.

But underneath all those corrective movements is the real power source: your breath.
Notice, I say the feeling of breath—not just breathing. Many people can take deep breaths in a yoga class, during a singing lesson, or while exercising. But for the rest of the day, we return to the same stuck postures, and our breathing becomes shallow and trapped.
